About eNumbers.org

Our Mission

eNumbers.org is an independent consumer resource dedicated to helping people understand what's in their food. We believe everyone deserves access to clear, science-based information about food additives โ€” without marketing spin or alarmism.

How We Rate Safety

Our Safety Scores (1โ€“10) are editorial assessments based on a combination of factors:

  • Regulatory status from EFSA (EU), FDA (USA), and other major agencies
  • Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) values from JECFA/WHO
  • Published peer-reviewed scientific research
  • Breadth of approval across jurisdictions
  • Known associations with adverse effects in humans
  • History of bans or restrictions in any country

A score of 9โ€“10 means universally approved, no credible safety concerns. A score of 1โ€“2 means banned in major jurisdictions or strong evidence of harm. Scores in between reflect varying degrees of scientific uncertainty or concern.
